It was like Alex Rodriguez coming to hit grounders to the Hillsborough High School baseball team.

   That’s how Raiders cross country and track coach Rich Refi described the visit of Meb Keflezighi to Hillsborough High School on Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Keflezighi, the 2009 ING New York Marathon champion and fresh off a sixth-place finish in Sunday’s New York Marathon, impressed student-athletes with his message of balance, wowed them with accounts of his accomplishments and inspired them while leading them through a stretching routine on the track after a question-and-answer session.

   ”We’ve been very fortunate,” said Alysia Puma, the Hillsborough teacher who established a connection to Mr. Keflezighi at the Boston Marathon in April. “To some degree, we seized the moment. We benefited from it, and I’m really glad to have him here.”

   Ms. Puma was running before the Boston Marathon when she passed Mr. Keflezighi on a run. They ran together for five minutes while Ms. Puma proposed to him a visit to Hillsborough. In the five minutes they ran together, she got an e-mail address for him and stayed in touch...(for more click here)
